Youth Sports Camp

Active Impact International had its first sports camp in Clinton, MS June 4-8 for 1st - 6th graders.  Each day the campers were greeted and had a fun ice breaker led by our two 8th grade volunteers Sarah Rose and Bella (both athletes from Mt Salus Christian School). Campers then rotated each day learning fundamentals of soccer, baseball, and basketball, led by Coach Andrew Mitchell and Coach Bill Maner. Additionally, each camper had an opportunity to participate in games and competitions throughout the week. The highlight of camp was the daily Christ centered devotion led by the Active Impact Camp staff.  Overall, it was a great week of camp, and we already making plans for next summers camps, as well as additional events throughout the year. You can stay up to date on all the events taking place by visiting our website and following us on Facebook.

End of the Year Ministry Update

Ministry Update

We have had a great start to the Active Impact International ministry in Clinton, MS.  God has opened some great doors for us to use basketball and counseling for His purpose.  Since August on Wednesday nights we have Open Gym for teens to play basketball.  Our target group is teens that are not involved in church.  Coach Mitchell uses this time to lead students in basketball and share the Gospel through a weekly devotion time.  In addition, Mary Kathryn, our counselor, is seeing clients in this same facility through Active Impact.  Please read Coach Mitchell and Mary Kathryn’s updates and see how God is using them.  We are excited to get this ministry off the ground.

Counseling Ministry

There has been a lot going on since beginning the Community Ministries of Active Impact . A lot of manual labor was put in this summer to renovate and put together a counseling office space for myself, as well as, prep the gym for the weekly Open Gym sports ministry. It has been a blessing to be apart of the ministry of Active Impact, particularly in my role of providing counseling in the community. Over the past semester I have been able to meet with six to ten clients regularly with the majority of that population being adolescents. I am thankful for the opportunities I have already been given to serve in this capacity and look forward to God continuing to grow this ministry. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for and/or given financially to the ministries of Active Impact, it is through these gifts that enable us to continue to serve as the hands and feet of Christ in our community.

Sports Ministry

Our first semester of sports ministry with Active Impact has gotten off to a good start.  We typically have anywhere from 8-12 students coming to our Wednesday night open gym times with around 5 others that show up from time to time as well.  We have seen kids from various schools in Clinton, which is exciting to see.  Our times usually looks like 2, 45 minute times of 5 on 5 basketball, with about a 15 minute devotional time in between our playing times as well.  During our devotion times we get the opportunity to share the Gospel, among other Scriptures, with our students and so far they have been attentive and interactive in some discussion during these presentations.

I am thankful that the Lord has opened up this opportunity for us here in the Clinton area and am excited to see how the Lord will use this ministry to impact the lives of students and their families throughout our community.  I am thankful to be apart of a team that looks to make God’s Word know in practical ways such as using the sport of basketball to impact the lives of the students in our area.  I grew up playing pickup basketball like this with my local school team and friends and it is fun to get to continue doing so while sharing God’s Word as well.  Thanks for your interest and support in our ministry and it will be exciting to see how God continues to lead us in the future!

What’s Coming Up Next…

Active Impact Sports Camp will provide an affordable, safe, and fun environment for kids 1st-6th grades to come and learn and participate in a variety of sports. Students will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of sports each week. There will be time spent teaching skills as well as participating in games. Additionally, kids will hear a daily devotional from members of the Active Impact staff. Please keep us in your prayers as we make preparations for this summer event.

Open Gym Update

This first month of Open Gym times for Active Impact has gone well.  We have seen a consistent crowd of around 12-15 local students show up to play basketball and hear a devotion from God’s Word.  I have been very pleased to see this number of students show up and am also glad to see the same students coming back from week to week.

So far, our times at the gym have looked like about 2, 45 minute sessions of full court basketball with about a 15 minute devotion in between those 2 playing times.  During our devotions, we have covered topics such as sin (out of Romans 3), Christ’s humility (out of Philippians 2), the fear of God being the beginning of wisdom and how to grow in this (out of various passages), and the difference between the life of righteousness and sin (out of Romans 6).  I have been thankful to see the students responsive and attentive during this time and would appreciate prayers that God’s Word would take heart in the lives of these students and increase to His glory.

Overall, Active Impact’s ministry here in Clinton with the Open Gyms has gotten off to a good start.  It is our desire to create a safe atmosphere for students to gather to play basketball, create relationships, and hear God’s Word and so far that is happening.  Please pray for this ministry that God’s Word would spread and be effective and that hearts would be open to the message of the Gospel.  If any student is interested in joining in our open gyms, our doors are open on Wednesdays from 6-8pm and we would love to have you out.

Thanks for staying updated with our ministry and I look forward to more Open Gyms to come!

Hurricane Relief

Active Impact International would like to thank Christ Covenant, First Presbyterian Day School, Hartfield Academy, and Mt. Salus Christian School for their outstanding work in collecting needed items for hurricane relief.  All these schools sponsored (collected and packaged) Flood Buckets and/or Hygiene Kits that were collected by Active Impact and then given to Mission to North America (MNA) or other Christian relief agencies such as the Jones County Baptist Association to help those in need from Hurricane Harvey.  Through this collaboration over 200 Flood Buckets and over 300 hygiene kits were assembled and made.  Each school collected the needed items to make and assemble the buckets and hygiene kits. We appreciate these Christian schools "stepping up to the plate" and collaborating to help others in need.
